Our first stop was Macau. We tried booking to stay at the Venetian, but since it was last minute most rooms were booked out. The suites to accommodate 4 adults and one child was quoted for 11,000RMB which we thought wasn't worth for a night. While looking up for other places to stay within the area I came across many good reviews for the Holiday Inn there. So we booked it and we were so glad we did. The hotel is perfect if you are travelling with a family. The rooms are spacious and with a good view, there is a bridge connected to the shopping malls and the Venetian , and the price is reasonable. The best part is the "Shrekfast", the breakfast with the Dreamworks Cartoon characters which is included with your stay.
We were there only for one night, so decided to skip the Old Macau side and explored the Cotai Strip.
The Venetian is truly grand and is a feast for the eyes. The lobby is a must see when you are here.
Later in the evening we went for dinner to the Hard Rock Hotel. They have the City of Dreams show here every evening at 5pm and 8pm ,if you are visiting try catching the show.
We took the ferry back to Hong Kong. There are free shuttle buses to and from the hotels to the port which is quite convenient. The ferry ride is every 15 minutes and we just bought our tickets at the counter and not in advance.
Hong Kong is a bustling city. We stayed in the city at a hotel called Lan Kwai Fong, Kau U Fong which was close to the MTR station. Small but clean rooms with a traditional touch. We headed to Disneyland by MTR. The MTR tickets can only be bought at the vending machines and accept only coins or 10 and 20 dollar notes. So if you don't have change you may have to get it at the counter, but you can't buy tickets at that counter.
You need a whole day to explore Disneyland ofcourse. Even here we bought tickets on arrival and not in advance. We got there late afternoon so there wasn't too much of a queue for tickets, but I've heard it's best to avoid weekends to visit this place. The MTR station is quite cute too with the train also customized Disney style.
Later, we headed to Victoria Peak for dinner and chose the popular Cafe Deco which has a balcony with a view of Hong Kong all lit up at night.
- Visas are on arrival for Indians at both HK and Macau
- People in HK are not as friendly as in mainland China. At Macau people are quite friendly most staff at hotels and restaurants are Filipinos/Indians and speak good English.
- MTR's are quite convenient to travel within HongKong. In Macau if you want to tour around ask at the hotel you are staying they will arrange a tour for you.
