Day trip to Oxford, England

 “The city of Dreaming Spires”

We took a train from London to do a day trip to Oxford.

We booked direct train from Marylebone to Oxford via the Trainline app. The journey is less than an hour and a half.

We got off the station planning to do the city walk on our own but was greeted by the Oxford Alumni tour group who gave us a group discount for a 90 minute city walk.

We started at the Martyr cross where the powerful Archbishop of Cantebury was burned and walked through some of the magnificent architecture of the universities. The guide told us many fun facts that kept us engaged on the walk.

We walked through all the important buildings like the Bodleian Library, Radcliffe Camera, St. Mary the Virgin tower, Bridge of Sighs , Christ Church university and Meadows.

It was an enjoyable walk and we got to hear about the in-depth history of the town. How the city inspired the stories of Narnia and Alice in Wonderland and also see architecture that influenced the sets of Harry Potter.

After the walking tour ended we bought individual tickets to enter the campus of the beautiful New College and later stopped by the Kings Arms Pub and Blackwell Book store before heading back to London.

Sharing a few pictures.

Notes:

The city is walkable and can easily be done on your own.

The walking tours just give us some more insight in to thr history of the city.

Would recommend the Alumni tours but wished they also included a ticketed venue to make the price worth it. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable.
