Apparently it's not just the Great wall that can be seen from space - now you can also see the smog!
This is our sixth year in Beijing...a lot of people ask us how much longer we'd be staying here.
Well, we are not quite sure ourselves...we both have stable jobs here ; the work-life balance is great.
The city is very safe and there is always something new to do...
All said the pollution is one of the reasons we have started thinking about how much longer to stay...
The past one week has been terrible and even the government has issued a health warning. Though they've shutdown factories in neighboring cities and are taking measures to ensure that the levels stay within the PM2.5 index - the last six days have been the worst! On days like these there's nothing we can do about it but to stay indoors with the air purifier running at maximum. If we have to go outdoors for work though annoying we try and wear the N95 masks.
There's no need to mention how all the certified masks and air purifiers are always sold out online and how much more expensive they are in China than in the UK or US.
Anyways finally today with some strong winds we have a clear blue sky day and let's keep fingers crossed that it stays this way.
There is a very nice health blog by a doctor at the Beijing Untied Hospital and he has many articles on pollution and effective masks/purifiers - do take a look.
