But if you really want to see the real side of Qianmen, you need to walk to the end of the shopping street and go in the small park in the hutongs. You can see people going about their daily lives buying fresh produce from the markets. Old people sitting out taking in some sunshine. It's really quiet and so different from the hustle and bustle just a street across.
It really felt like we were in another city.
We booked a Staycation and stayed at the Emperor Hotel which has a rooftop over looking the Hutongs and a beautiful view of the Zhengyang Gate as well as the Temple of Heaven.
- Subway Line 2 - Qianmen Station
- Tourist shops for Beijing souvenirs as well as Western Brands available on this stretch
- Best to go early evening so you can walk around the park in the day and see the lights at sunset
- Crowded and touristy, so it's good to be careful of your belongings
- Temple of Heaven is about a 20 min walk by foot which is worth going to if you are staying around this area.
