Passport and Visa application for new born Indian babies in Beijing

We've been blessed with a beautiful baby boy. He was born this August at Amcare hospital.

We found applying for a passport and dependent visa a tedious process and thought of  putting together these steps to help anyone who has a baby in Beijing and requires to apply for an Indian passport and dependent visa.

1.     Get birth certificate from Hospital.

2.     The birth certificate needs to be translated and notarized.

3.     The notary office in the link below has an English translator

4. For attestation you'll need to submit parents passport along with child’s birth certificate. It will take about 4 to 5 working days to get this done.

5. Next, this notarized certificate needs to be attested by the Foreign Affairs Ministry.This building(7^th floor) is right opposite to Galaxy Soho and some staff speak English.Th charge is about RMB 150. They also have an express service for a higher fee. They just stamp the certificate from the notary office. 
Timings Mon - Fri - 08:00 to 11:00am

6. With this certificate you will need to go to the Indian Embassy (09:30 to 11:30 am). Registration of your baby as an Indian citizen will be done at RMB 118.

7. Docs required-

a.     Notarized birth certificate. (+1 Photocopy.)

b.    Parents passport. (+1 Photocopy.)

c.     If the Spouse details are not in your passport, you may have to take your wedding certificate too. (+1 Photocopy.)

d.    An application letter in a plain white paper (To, The First Secretary, Indian Embassy Beijing. Ixxxx working with xxx company for n’years and living in Beijing want to register my child’s birth with Indian Embassy.)

8.  After 5 working days you will get the birth registration certificate. Now you can apply for the passport of new born. It will take 4 to 5 weeks to get the passport.

Docs required -

            a.     Passport application form. (You can download this from Embassy website).

b.    3 passport size photos of baby with eyes open and ears seen with blue background.

c.     Photocopy of birth registration document given by Embassy.

d.    Parents passport and photocopies.

9..  Once you receive the Passport, go to the nearest Police station and get the temporary residence registration. 

a.     Your house contract.

b.    Landlord’s ID copy.

c.     Your passport copy.

d. Validity for this will be only for a week. In the meanwhile you will need to apply for the dependent visa.

10.  For visa application, you will need to go to the PSB office at Xiaojie Qiao

a.     You need to get an application with your Company seal.

b.    3 photos with white background.

c.     Photocopies of working parent’s passport.

d.    Photocopies of all the pages of work permit of working parent.

e.     You need to pay RMB400.

f.     It will take 5-6 working days to issue the visa.Validity of visa will be similar to the validity of visa of the parent.


 Once you receive the passport with dependent visa, go to the nearest Police station to get the residence registration done.
