Shopping in Beijing

If you are a tourist in Beijing, you wouldn't need to read this post as there are enough posts out there on where to shop and how to bargain etc...But if you are living in Beijing, often you find yourself thinking of where to find bubble wrap or where to go for grocery, or even plus sized clothes ...

I've made a short list below on where we go for our shopping:

Supermarket: We go to "Metro" in SanyuanQiao. The reason being you get imported brands. It's not crowded and we find it quite convenient. We usually buy toiletries, Olive oil, Imported milk, Organic eggs, Imported cheese, cereal etc from here. There is also Carrefour and Walmart which are also popular.

Wet market: For most of our regular veggies we go to our local market but if we are looking for quality meat or sea food, we go to Sanyuanli. I already have a detailed post I've linked here if you want to take a look.

Sports goods: Decathlon. It has everything related to sports  you would ever need under one roof , Also it is very affordable. The best part is you don't have to worry about sizes they have big sizes in clothes and shoes.

Clothes: We find H&M, Uniqlo and GAP among the branded stuff affordable.

Baby food, items : Lijia baby

Books: Bookworm or Page one

Knick knacks or quirky stuff : Nanluoguxiang

Furniture: IKEA. No hassles. Check what you like online , head over and pick it up. Just be prepared for crowds on weekends , holidays and when they have a Sale. It also may get difficult to get a cab during rush hours.

Electronics: Most people prefer buying online on Amazon China or JD.com due to competitive prices , but can also recommend Sundan electronics for good quality stuff.

Souvenirs/ Pearls : Anything you want to take back home for friends or family you should head to Yashow in Sanlitun or Hong Qiao near Temple of heaven. Be prepared to bargain. Mostly knock offs of big brands but you also get good pearls and Chinese souvenirs like a tea set or a fridge magnet if you want to give gifts.

For anything else under the sun: TAOBAO.COM
If you've been in China a while you'd have already heard of Taobao. Get a colleague or a chinese friend to help order. Just use Google translate to browse through.
